Watching Each Other’s Back
Acts 13:22 ‘After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: ‘ I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’
I find it amazing that God had such confidence in the fact that he had David’s heart that he was willing to put it down in writing for all to see. God and David were such great mates that each knew the other would not let them down. David knew that God would back him up when he needed to take on the lion and the bear. David knew his God would back him up when facing a nine foot giant called Goliath. God also knew that no matter what David went through, his heart would never stray from Him. Even during times when he really blew it with Bathsheba God knew his heart would respond, even when Saul was chasing all over the country side trying to take his life, God knew his heart would not stray. Even though it looked like his dream of being King was slipping away, his heart was confident in his God. One read of the Psalms and you can see the torment in David’s soul sometimes with him not fully understanding with his mind what is going on. But not matter what, he always ends up back at the position of complete trust in God. What a wonderful relationship!
I would love it if one day someone would write about me that I was man who really knew his God, a man that followed God’s plans and purposes for his generation. A man who would do everything God requested of him! That would make a great eulogy! However, the reality is, often I don’t do what God asks of me. I dismiss opportunities to speak into someone’s life on His behalf because I am often too busy doing my own thing. I don’t respond to his small prompts to engage with someone on the street, or in a shopping centre because I wonder what they will think of me. I doubt God could say that of me just yet! But I am determined to build the intimacy of our relationship more and more so that I am confident that no matter what he requests of me I know he will back me up! I want to reach that place like David was where I know we stand together always confidently watching each other’s back!
My prayer… Father help me to love and develop our relationship more. I am sorry for the times I have let you and others down by simply not stepping out on your prompts. Lord lead me to the place where we can be so one that no matter what happens I know you have my back and I’ll faithfully have yours.
